Social strategic design project integrated by members of different design disciplines such as textile design, industrial design and interactive design for the non-profit organization Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya. The project´s objective was to develop a sustainable and eco-touristic strategy in order to increase the touristic flow in the zone of Calakmul, Campeche, where vulnerable communities live, and to improve the profit and the living conditions of the people.
The name of the strategy was Sowing Experiences, a platform where the travelers can participate in the development of communitarian projects of the community that Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya has been implementing, through a collaborative relationship between travelers and the communities through an experiential tourism.
To materialize the strategy, it was proposed the construction of a physical space, a house that will generate the link between the community and the travelers, named Casa Lumal, which means community in the chol dialect. It was necessary to develop the graphic image of the house and a strategic interior design project of the house, which had to involve all the communities in the zone and to be adequate to their needs and possibilities, especially through strategies that take advantage of the knowledge of the community and the materials available in the region with the aim of generating a sense of ownership by the communities. Today Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya is now working in the first stage of planning of Casa Lumal´s construction.
